"The new magazines are subtly different from their older counterparts, however, because their audience is changing in personality as well as in number. Covers still feature teenage idols and articles about complexion problems and hairstyles, but now these staples are joined by articles about sexual harassment at school, eating disorders, racism, and depression - along with dozens of other topics that were once reserved for adults." pg. 133 in Mass Media in a Changing WorldI selected this topic to feature the new age of magazines and the changes that they are making to the look of their brand. Magazines are now choosing to expand their topics of articles to accommodate a new age of young women and the problems they have to face in their generation. We can now see these changes through advertisements and article topics they publish.
"Teenage girls today have to sort through so many messages. They don't know if they're supposed to grow up to be corporate working women and conquer the world, or stay-at-home moms, or Miss America or Hillary Clinton. The typical teenage girl isn't quite sure whether to worry about her pimple or whether to go out and win a Pulitzer. That's in part why you can have so many magazines." - Atoosa Rubenstein, CosmoGirl
